What Say We... Yay or Nay?!

Singer Solange Knowles Promote Samantha Thavasa & Disney Collection at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel on August 10, 2009 in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan.

The internet has been buzzing with the news/photos of Solange's new hair cut. Why did she chop all her hair off? Has she gone crazy? Did she do it because she's going bald underneath all that weave?! Sometimes there's no conspiracy. Nor no explanation needed. Here's a novel idea: maybe she just wanted a change. Either way, Solange has stepped out of her sister's shadow and displays the character and poise of a woman coming into her own. I say Yay to the hairstyle and, of course, the outfit. The jury is still out on the shoes...

What Say We?... Yay or Nay

Rihanna attends "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4, 2009 in New York City.

By now I'm sure you've all seen the Dolce & Gabbana suit Rihanna wore to the Met's Costume Institute Gala. Much like Estelle's attempt to be eclectic and cutting-edge on the red carpet this look just didn't translate once captured on film. I'm sure she looked "fierce" in person but I'm going to have to give the usually stylish Rihanna a "nay". I know puff-sleeves are all-the-rage right now, but this is overkill.

What Say We?... Yay or Nay

Estelle arrives for the Brit Awards 2009 at Earls Court on February 18, 2009 in London, England.

What do we think? I'm on the proverbial fence. While on the one hand I adore the shape of this dress, puffy sleeves and all, on the other I think there may be a little too much "detail" on there. She looks like a christmas tree that was decorated by a bunch of hyperactive toddlers coming off a sugar high. I will let it slide this time. Afterall she is wearing fab heels. YAY!!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Solange arrives at the "Late Show with David Letterman" at the Ed Sullivan Theatre on August 25, 2008 in New York City.

How hard must it be to have an older sister who's considered by most to be more talented, beautiful and stylish than you? Gotta suck, huh? Well, Ms. Solange Knowles doesn't think so. She's finally making a name for herself on the music scene and the red carpet. While some my call her style somewhat 'contrived', I think her eclectic taste is refreshing and endearing. She's not afraid to take risks and puts her own twist on the latest trends. What do you think of her outfit above worn at a recent appearance at the Late Show with David Letterman. I'm going to say 'yay'! Whilst most of us would look mentally unstable in such an ensemble, Sol-Angel and her glamorous lifestyle pull it off. All hail the underdog!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Amerie attends Nanette Lepore and the Creative Coalition's Fashion Votes event at the new Nanette Lepore boutique on Melrose Avenue on June 16, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.

Amerie has always been a diva I love to watch out for on the red carpet. This outfit however left me a little perplexed. While I love the color an overall shape of the dress, the detailing is a little reminiscent of the 1980s. The hint of rectangular shoulders and buttoned down, flap pockets throws the dress off to me. In any case, Amerie is one of those ladies who could make a brown potato sack look fashion-forward, so I'm going to give her a "Yay". At lease this look is better than this catastrophe. Now if we could just get her to release an album...

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Tracee Ellis Ross attending the Los Angeles screening of Trembled Blossoms presented by Prada on March 19, 2008 in Beverly Hills California.

Tracee what happened? You usually get it so right. While each individual piece looks great i.e. the top, skirt and heels, together they scream "I dressed in the dark." And the necklace's proportions are all off. This look could have worked had she gone with more delicate shoes but when all is said and done, I'm inclined to give Ms. Ross a nay. Don't worry Tracee, you're still my style icon!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Malinda Williams arrives at the First Sunday premiere at The Cinerama Dome on January 10, 2007 in Los Angeles, California.

Come on now Malinda, we can do better than this. This Grace Jones throw-back dress, that Ms. Williams decided to rock at the premiere of "First Sunday," is almost as awful as the movie itself. The cut doesn't flatter her petite shape, the hood looks awkward as it's almost falling off and don't get me started on the intense, blue eye make-up. A bonified NAY, Malinda!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Eva Pigford arriving at the 'Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married' premiere at the Cinerama Dome on October 4, 2007 in Hollywood, California.

Everyone’s favorite “Top Model” Eva Pigford walked the red carpet of Tyler Perry’s new movie “Why Did I Get Married.” The premiere was brimming with very well dressed stars like Jill Scott, Janet Jackson and Sharon Neal. Eva looked great in silver but then you get down to the feet and the stripper shoes and things go awry. Her hair and make-up are on point but whose idea was it to put those things on your feet Eva? If nothing else she’s a risk taker. You just narrowly escape with a Yay, but you’ve been warned!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Sarah Jessica Parker arriving at the Ara Pacis for the "Valentino In Rome, 45 Years Of Style" Exhibition opening in Rome on July 6, 2007.

Fashion icon Valentino decided to mark the celebration of the 45th anniversary of his luxury brand by breaking a 17-year tradition of unveiling his luxurious haute couture collections for women in Paris with a show in Rome. Sarah Jessica Parker arrived wearing Valentino (of course!), but I’m on the proverbial fence when it comes to this particular piece of “haute couture.” While Valentino is one of fashion’s living legends, Sarah has single-handedly proven why couture is best kept on the runway. NAY!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Naomi Campbell leaving her community service gig yesterday. Campbell pleaded guilty in January to hitting her housekeeper in the head with a cell phone after she couldn't find a pair of her jeans!

Community service for most is a time for self-reflection and perhaps unearthing the demons that put you in that situation in the first place. For Naomi Campbell, this is another opportunity to show off her 3-inch stilettos, given to her gratis courtesy of her designer friends. Now I’m not suggesting that Naomi should show up at the New York City Sanitation Department Depot looking all raggedy, but if all you’ll be doing is mopping and sweeping floors, are the trilby hat, excessive jewelry and fur coat necessary? Yay for the fabulous outfits. Nay for personal growth!

Double Edition: What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Sanaa Lathan at Cavern Wallpaper and Kidada Jones for Disney Coutour Celebrate Their New Collections last month in Hollywood, California.
Tyra Banks arriving at the 2007 Clive Davis Pre-GRAMMY Awards Party last Friday in Beverly Hills.

I don’t know folks, this hairstyle on Sanaa Lathan is looking a little busted and the dress didn’t need the tights. I think it’s a ‘Nay’ although she still looks cute like only Sanaa could. Look out for Ms. Lathan in the TV adaptation of “A Raisin in the Sun.” She'll be starring alongside the recent Broadway cast which includes Diddy, Audra McDonald, and Phylicia Rashad. I actually helped promote and watched this play when it debuted on Broadway back in '04.

Meanwhile Tyra needs to stop the persistent madness. A woman this beautiful must really be messing up to look this bad. Let’s begin with her hairline which consistently shows the lace from her wig. Then how could you miss the fake eyelashes that look like spiders on vacation. She’s wearing entirely too much makeup and the dress is not flattering her curvy figure. Is the lace part of the original dress? Who knows? A big fat NAY!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Vanessa Williams arriving at the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Monday night in Beverly Hills, California.

I think Vanessa Williams looks absolutely fabulous! She knows what works for her body and dresses appropriately for her age. I think her hair looks a little too wild but it doesn’t hinder the overall look of her outfit. I say ‘Yay!’ I do have one question though… Isn’t she sweating hard under that fur in the California heat?!
