Last night, New York played host to VH1 Soul's 3rd annual Black Girls Rock extravaganza! In attendance were honorees singer Estelle, as well as actress Pam Grier, and 70s models Bethanne Hardison and Iman. Other guest included singers Faith Evans, Teyanna Taylor and Erykah Badu; actresses Malinda Williams, Vanessa Williams, Kenya Moore and Regina King; and Veronica Webb, June Ambrose, Susan Taylor and of course DJ Beverly Bond. See the pics above for red carpet shots of all our favorite divas. My personal favorites are Ms. Moore's and Veronica Webb - work it ladies!! What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Malinda Williams arrives at the First Sunday premiere at The Cinerama Dome on January 10, 2007 in Los Angeles, California.

Come on now Malinda, we can do better than this. This Grace Jones throw-back dress, that Ms. Williams decided to rock at the premiere of "First Sunday," is almost as awful as the movie itself. The cut doesn't flatter her petite shape, the hood looks awkward as it's almost falling off and don't get me started on the intense, blue eye make-up. A bonified NAY, Malinda!

Wearing red lipstick is a statement. Whether you’re full of confidence or “preserving your sexy,” red is the color of choice. Whilst wearing red lips can seem intimidating at first, the key is to pick the right color for your skin complexion. Those with red/pink undertones will look better in plum shades, while those with yellow undertones should try warmer and bronzer reds. Now if you already possess a red lip color that you don’t like, mix it with other shades until you find a color that suits you. Use the back of your hand as a palette. Novices should start with gloss then work their way up to lipstick. When all else fails, try Benefit’s Benetint Lip Balm (pictured, No. 6) or a lip stain for “just bitten lips” (See No. 5 above) for softer red lips.

If your grandma still knits you “clothes” this would be a good time to ask her to make you something you’ll actually wear. These crochet beanies or berets have been around since the beginning of time. The first time I saw one was on my friend who told me she bought hers in Jamaica. Not strictly for winter, these cozy hats finish the ultimate “I just threw this together” look to any outfit.

Why should only royals and the artist known as Prince get to prance about in purple garments? Nothing says “look at me I’m special” like a jewel-purple dress paired with gold heels and diamonds. The ladies above are already enjoying the benefits of this regal hue. From violet to plum, every variation is bound to make you shine. All you need now is your crown…
