Can a police officer not be naked?

I live in Queensland, not the 'Smart State' but the 'State of Moral Panic' where a politician can openly accept bribes by multinational CEO's under the guise of political donations but where police officers simply cannot have a spot of fun. In a State where more police are resigning than the number joining, surely the move to punish off duty police officers for doing things like swimming in the Brisbane River which is a legal act, and this highly strung reaction to six naked men is absurd.

Did they break the law?

Yes, in Queensland, being naked where people can see you is an act of public indecency and yes, this includes your backyard where you live. Yet after months and months of waiting, 6 police officers have been dealt with for their naked run around a van, a police van at night.

Do you support the disciplinary responses with these police officers or do you have another point of view?

"A POLICE sergeant involved in an off-duty nudie run through traffic at Capalaba last September has been demoted to senior-constable in a move that will cost him about $30,000 a year.
"The penalty is the harshest given to the six elite Special Emergency Response Team officers sanctioned by management for their part in the buck's party prank.
"Three others, who along with the sergeant pleaded guilty to public nuisance charges, were let off with pay point reductions, suspended after 12 months.
"A fifth officer who refused to sign an affadavit admitting his role in the stunt was penalised two pay points and the sixth officer who drove the mini-bus was given a suspended demotion from sergeant to senior-constable.
"A decision will be made next week as to whether the officers can return to SERT but until then the police must remain in the desk jobs they have been doing for almost a year."
