Frills and All...

Dress: "Black Halo" Cami Dress in Black/White, $345, www.PinkMascara.com (Also available at Shop Intuition)
Jennifer Hudson, Kevin Liles’ guest Robin and Tocarra of ANTM arrive in style.

Trend Alert: What do you get when you mix one high-waisted pencil skirt, one frilly white shirt and a killer belt? How about a hot red carpet look that doesn’t require flashing inches of skin. Though the pencil skirt has been around since the beginning of time, teaming it with a crisp, frilly shirt gives it a distinct, new edge. The rigid, straight lines of the skirt look amazing against the soft ruffles of the shirt. The item I picked above is by the designer “Black Halo.” Since a full-sleeved shirt can allude to office wear, this sleeves option can transition seamlessly from the work day to evening cocktails! Add either a thin or thick statement belt and your ready for a red carpet worthy entrance of your own.

Spring is the perfect season to show off your girlie-girl side. Think light chiffon, delicate prints and plenty of frills. But don’t just concede to stereotypical feminine lace or colors like baby pink. Be bold and opt for greens, bright reds and even add edge to an outfit with some denim (a la Genevieve Jones). Also play with hemlines. Not everything has to be short to be feminine. Long, flowy dresses and skirts are perfect for spring. On another note, I wish Jennifer Hudson had looked this put together on the Oscar’s red carpet. I wonder if Mr. Talley and Ms. Hudson are still friends...

Statement Blazer + Favorite Pair of Jeans = Perfection Everytime!

Of-the-Season Blazer: Beyonce at a Dreamgirls’ Photocall in January this year in Berlin.
Men's Blazer: Halle Berry arriving at the opening night of the new production of "Wicked" held at The Pantages Theatre last month in Hollywood.
Cropped Blazer: Jennifer Hudson appearance and interview on XM Satellite Radio on January 10, 2007.
Stand-Out Blazer: Kerry Washington attending the newly opened Oscar de la Renta Boutique in November of 2004 in New York City.
Fitted Blazer: Sanaa Lathan arriving at the premiere of New Line's "King's Ransom" last April 21, 2005 in LA.

We’ve all been in this situation. You have just half an hour to get ready and you haven’t even decided what shoes you’re going to wear out that night. Desperate times call for fail-safe measures. Whenever I want to look polished and chic but don’t have the time to spare, I grab my favorite pair of jeans and a tailored blazer. This spring invest in a jacket or blazer and team with either a simple tee (Kerry and Sanaa) or a fitted shirt (Halle and Beyonce). Alternatively you could go with a cropped jacket a la Jennifer Hudson. Also consider statement accessories like a chunky necklace and statement belt like Sanaa. Oh and don’t forget the killer boots! ;)

Oscar Fashion… Be Kind!

Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose
Beyonce and Jada Pinkett-Smith
Keisha Whitaker and Queen Latifah
Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez
Oprah and Mary J. Blige at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party
Tracey Edmonds and Shaun Robinson
Rashida & Quincy Jones and Will & Jaden Smith
Tanika Ray and Forest & Keisha Whitaker
Djimon Hounsou and Eddie Murphy

623 seamstresses beaten and whipped, 537 stylists cursed, 469 shoes re-dyed, 313 nails chiseled and 165 curling irons burnt-out and it was, for the most part, worth it. Many will debate the necessity of Ms. Hudson’s gold jacket but if nothing else, she’s been reading this blog (see below!) No one dress blew me away but I loved the way Oprah, Anika Noni Rose, Beyonce and Penelope Cruz looked.

Jada’s dress was disappointing. I’m not too sure what the bodice was all about. Keisha Whitaker's dress was ugly to me in the back with the roses but she still worked it and can someone explain to me who Shaun Robinson and Tanika Ray are?! Seriously, I see them all the time and I have no idea what they do.

Lasty, the men were sharp in their tuxes, bar Quincy. Wasn't Jaden so cute presenting an Oscar? I’m mad that Djimon didn’t win but at least he looked yummy. Don’t worry Djimon, you can always come cry on my shoulder!

Alright Now!...

I guess pigs are flying somewhere over Manhattan! I’m so happy for Miss Hudson, this is going to be her year for sure. Annie Leibovitz took the pics and Andre Leon Talley was indeed involved and even wrote the article. Head over to YBF to see more pics from the shoot and get more info. What do we think of the cover and other photos? I think it could have been better actually but Annie still captured her beauty, inside and out. Apparently Jennifer is the first black singer on the cover and the third black female celebrity ever... Can anyone confirm?

Jennifer Hudson on the cover of Vogue?

What started off as a rumor seems like it might actually become a reality. Academy Award nominee, Jennifer Hudson, will join Oprah Winfrey and Halle Berry as the third Black celebrity to ever land the cover of Vogue Magazine (U.S.). She will appear on the March “Power Issue” of the publication which showcases upcoming Spring fashions. Gossip columnist Liz Smith said Jennifer recently completed the photo shoot with Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, himself, overseeing the entire session. Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed. Anna Wintour doesn't even let people over a size four work for her nevermind appear on the cover of her beloved magazine. While we wait, visit Jennifer’s official site here and check her out in the latest Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue.
